What is a Virtual Private Server?

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) operates as a normal physical server but privately shares a part of a much larger physical resource making it a very efficient and flexible system.  VPS’s bridge the product range gap between shared web hosting services and colocation services.

A VPS gives the customer full administrative control of the operating system but no responsibility for management of the hardware or virtualisation software used to provide the service. The line of responsibility for the Operating System itself can vary between the hosting provider and the customer as shown below:

So what are the Business Benefits?

Businesses need fast, reliable and secure IT information systems to share increasingly sophisticated data between staff, customers, suppliers and IT Partners. Such systems are business critical and the upfront capital costs of establishing such systems can often be high.

Virtualisation technologies such as VStrata is a mature and sensible option to consider with benefits including:

  • paying only for what you need monthly
  • improved business continuity and
  • operational flexibility.
